The popular one-way Western, shot to BLBS Rules has moved from Bronte Archers to Panda Bowmen, and the archers who run the Crecy have moved with it. Apart from the venue, the format will be the same as before:
Unfortunately, due to a world shortage of field kitchens, we will be unable to offer pie and peas this year. There will however be free tea and coffee. We hope you will come and join us on 17th July 2010. John Bowers Crecy tournament secretary
Every winter the BLBS puts on an outside Portsmouth postal league. The competition is open to teams of 4 longbow archers and operates over the months November-February. Like an indoor Portsmouth’ a round is 5 dozen arrows shot in ends of 3 at a distance of 20 yards on a 60cm target face. Unlike an indoor Portsmouth however scoring is imperial (9,7,5 ...) and not metric. Results are classified by hits, score and golds in that order. Inner golds are also scored as tiebreakers. Each team has to submit the results of 2 rounds shot per month for each member and and the winning team is the one with the greatest aggregate number of hits, or, in the usual situation that each team has scored the maximum hits, the highest aggregate score. Members of the winning team receive a medal. Individual rankings are also recorded and published. Archers who are not members of a team may submit scores for the individual rankings. A team from Panda comprising Ken England (captain), John Bowers and Keith Harrison together with Les Court of Bronte Archers is competing under the name Crecy Archers. This team won the competition last year and hopes to repeat its success. The team will be shooting 2 Portsmouth rounds every Saturday afternoon throughout the winter INDOOR SHOOTING 2009/2010 The venue is St Edmunds Church Hall in Roundhay, which is located at the junction of Lidget Park Road and North Park Avenue. The location is just off Roundhay Park and the Ring Road. For further details put LS8 1JN into www.multimap.com The Hall has disabled access, kitchen facilities for hot drinks etc, toilets and storage for our targets and stands over the winter: the cost will be £5 per session. The sessions will be on the following Saturday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm, shooting a Portsmouth round (five dozen arrows at a distance of 20 yards). 28th November 9th January 13th February 13th March We need around 12 people on average to make hiring the Hall pay its way (Ian Jackson has kindly offered to hire the kitchen for us from Club Funds), so it would a great help to have some indication of number as each session comes round. If we cancel up to two weeks in advance then we incur no penalty so I suggest that people should register their interest with me (Peter Hine, 110 Bentley Lane, Leeds, LS6 4AJ, 0113 2785238, p.j.hine@leeds.ac.uk) around three weeks beforehand by either mail, phone, email).
Portsmouth scoring uses the 10 zone method. A typical score sheet is shown below.
